On March 31st, 2024, Ellen Callender Miller went home to be with our Lord and family. Ellen was born on December 24th, 1930, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. She was the remaining daughter to Alexander and Edith Callender, sister to Winnifred Shumaker who preceded her. Once beloved wife of the late Kenneth B. Miller, Ellen was blessed with three children: John (Teri), Kenneth Dale (Sandra), and Gwyneth (Charles). Her family continued to grow as the seasons passed by and her grandchildren were born. Ashley, John Jr., Kenneth, and Alexandria were dearly cherished by Ellen, as well as her great-grandchildren, Aurora, and Nolan. Ellen worked for A+P Grocery Payroll Department before marrying Kenneth in 1953. Her life then revolved around her family, friends, and garden. She nurtured those around her with tender care and love. From this, all of those that she cared for have nothing but appreciation for Ellen’s dedication (and baking). Ellen was the matriarch of the Miller family and to those that had crossed her path. Her shining soul will be terribly missed by her friends and her family.
“The Gentle Gardener” by Edgar A. Guest
I'd like to leave but daffodils
to mark my little way,
To leave but tulips red and white
behind me as I stray.
I'd like to pass away from earth
and feel I'd left behind
But roses and forget-me-nots for
all who come to find.
I'd like to sow the barren spots
with all the flowers of earth,
To leave a path where those who come
should find but gentle mirth.
And when at last I'm called upon
to join the heavenly throng
I’d like to feel along my way I'd left
no sign of wrong.
And yet the cares are many
and the fours of toil are few.
There is not time enough on earth
for all I'd like to do.
But, having lived and having toiled,
I'd like the world to find
Some little touch of beauty
that my soul had left behind.
